Acting Classes with Sam Rush and Cate Damon!


For a number of years various audience members and friends of NCT have asked whether or we offer acting classes. For one reason or another the timing for such an endeavor has never seemed right — until now.  Producing Director Sam Rush and NCT actress Cate Damon will offer three courses in acting beginning in September 2010.  Damon will offer a two courses for teens (ages 14-18) and Rush will offer an acting class designed specifically for non-actors or people who are just starting out. Two classes will be offered for teen actors:

Scene Study for Teens
Ages 14-18, Taught by Cate Damon
Thursdays, 4:00-5:30pm
First Churches, Northampton
September 16-December 9, 2010
*No class November 25

Working with contemporary plays as well as such texts as Respect for Acting and A Practical Handbook for the Actor, students will learn how to read a play for character development, identify objectives, break the scene down into beats and, ultimately, stage their scene.

Audition Technique for Teens
Ages 14-18, Taught by Cate Damon
Thursdays, 5:45-6:15pm
First Churches, Northampton
September 16-December 9, 2010

Using the 12 guide posts developed by Michael Shurtleff, students will learn monologue selection, character development, cold readings, on-camera  vs. off-camera technique and audition presentation. By the end of this course, students will leave with three polished monologues to use for professional, community or educational institution auditions.

Acting for Non-Actors
Ages 18 and up, Taught by Sam Rush

Always wanted to try performing but were afraid to act? Now's your chance. With NCT producing director Sam Rush, you'll have a chance to explore your inner ham in a fun, supportive environment. Using texts, improv and original source material, you'll learn how to act just like the NCT pros domaybe even better!
