This powerful and moving documentary play was drawn from interviews, letters and essays written by American soldiers serving in Iraq, as well as Iraqi civilians. Created by drama students in Wilton, Connecticut, as a class project, it was deemed too controversial by the school's principal and all performances were canceled.
The story of “Voices in Conflict” subsequently appeared in The New York Times, and support began pouring in — from the theater community, from soldiers currently serving in Iraq, and from theater and free-speech supporters around the world.
As a result, the students were invited to perform the play at the Vineyard Theatre, The Public Theater and the Culture Project, all in New York; actor/director Stanley Tucci hosted a special broadcast of the play on the Connecticut Public Broadcasting Network; and Music Theater International recognized the students with its Courage in Theater Award, the first such honor in the organization's history.
Now you have a chance to see “Voices in Conflict” — the play that went from local controversy to Off-Broadway hit — in its only Western Massachusetts performances!
Produced by special arrangement with Playscripts, Inc.
“Freedom, like theater, can only exist when it finds it own voice.”
